Well today was the cycle from Great Harwood to Just south of Lancaster. Junction 34 on the M6 to be exact(er).
Here is a link to a video of the route. First time I have tried this
The weather has not been kind to us for our first day. I has pored down almost the whole cycle.
We prepared in Grandpas garage out of the rain and tried to wait a wee while but the forecast was right that it was not going to give up.

One for the Charity. :0) |
We got fully suited up and headed out in to the lashing rain.
The ride down from Grandpas to Whalley was nice as it was almost all down hill.
We cycled passed Whalley Abby
Bobby taking shelter in the arch way |
The rain began to ease as we got to Mitton hall and the river. But from the looks of the photo the river was beginning to fill up. This was nothing compared to the rivers we would see later.
We plodded on as the rain held off. Infact we were all togged up in our wet weather gear and without the rain it was dryer on the outside of our waterproofs than in side. We were sweating buckets.
We started the climb up to Dunsop Bridge and had a lovely view of the valley running up to the town
Some unusual birds that made the oddest of calls. |
Once through Dunsop Bridge we started to climb in to the vally that would lead over the trough of Bowland.
Alex passed us just before the steep climb and we arranged to meet in the valley on the other side for lunch.
The rain returned with vengeance. Which was good in a way as we could cool down a bit.

Keep going |
View back from Half way |
The road was like a river with water flowing down it. |
Once over the top it was a very short but exciting dash down the other side. Bobby nearly had an off then he got trapped in a gravel filled gully at about 30mph but somehow managed to hop out of it.
In the valley at the bottom, man Friday had set up the lunch stop for us.
Brilliant lad Alex. :0) |
The Rain just got heavier and heavier. |
This had been a pleasant steam yesterday |
The gradual climb out of the valley took us up to the viewing point over Morcambe Bay.
Can you tell the difference

Time for a Bannana |
Well we carried on through the rain and finally made it to the Campsite for 3pm.
We had covered 34.5 miles
With the rain still hammering down we put up the tents and showered and put on some dry cloths.
Would you believe at about 6pm the clouds parted and the sun came out.
We managed to get a drying line set up to get the clothes dried for tomorrow.

We then relaxed and soaked up the remains of the sun and stuffed our shoes with news paper to dry them.
